It is with mixed emotions that I am announcing the 2015 Anita Deprey Studio of Dance Recital will be the studio’s last recital. After 43 years of teaching dance in East Hartford, I have decided to close the Anita Deprey Studio of Dance and begin a new chapter in my life.
Making the decision to close the studio has been a very difficult one. I have seen hundreds of students come through the studio and grow as dancers and performers, many of whom have moved on to great opportunities. I have also watched my own children grow up here in the studio and move out on their own. Recently, the nest has become even emptier as my husband was contracted out for a job in Houston, Texas and was recently offered a full-time position as a Senior Engineer for the company.
After much consideration and deliberation, my husband and I agreed that this is an amazing opportunity for him. As a result, I will be moving to Texas to be with him - which means I will no longer be running the studio. Not having my husband home for these past few months has been very difficult, and I am looking forward to being able to be with him again.
My studio is also my family, and it breaks my heart to have to say goodbye. I know many of you have been with me for many years, and generations of your family members have come through since I started the studio back in 1971. I am saddened knowing that I will not be able to see my current students continue to grow as dancers and performers. I am so proud of the level of talent that is shared across the studio, and it is going to be very difficult to not continue operating the studio. I know the news is upsetting for many of you, and I’m sorry to cause you any sadness. At the same time, I believe now is the right time for me to focus on my family, and to focus on myself.
I would like to invite you all to our recital this year, aptly titled “To New Beginnings.” While this may be the last show our studio produces, it is the start of a new beginning for me and for the many talented dancers and families that are a part of the Anita Deprey Dance Family. The show will be held on Sunday, May 17, 2015 at UConn’s Jorgensen Center for the Performing Arts in Storrs, CT. Please join us as we celebrate all of the accomplishments of the studio and reflect on the past 43 years that have been filled with dance, performance, and love.
I would like to thank each and every one of you for your love and support. I am very proud of the accomplishments of all of my students, and I hope that they all continue dancing and performing. I love you all. Thank you for 43 of the best years of my life.
All My Love,
